What’s happening?

High school students from 15 schools across Queensland and the Northern Territory will gather at Queensland Parliament on Thursday, 28 August 2025. It is the first Together For Humanity Queensland and Northern Territory Youth Summit. Students will share ideas on diversity, inclusion, and community cohesion.

“After several successful state-based youth summits in the ACT, NSW and Victoria, Together For Humanity is continuing our expansion of coast-to-coast programs and activities by holding our first ever summit in Queensland,” says Annette Schneider, CEO of Together For Humanity. “What better place to bring the future leaders of Australia together than Parliament House in Brisbane, where they can speak directly to the decision makers and be inspired to be change-makers themselves.”

Why it matters

Young people will present practical ideas to politicians and community leaders. The summit will equip students to be local change makers. Three of the four schools featured in The Swap on Netflix will attend as one team.

“At St. Laurence’s College, we’re committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every young man feels seen, heard, and valued,” says Principal Ben Lowrie.

Local impact

Toowoomba students from Wilsonton State High School and Harristown State High School will attend. They will collaborate with peers from Brisbane, Darwin, Alice Springs, and Mackay. Their proposals will be heard inside Queensland Parliament.

By the numbers

  • 2 Toowoomba schools will participate, bringing regional voices to a statewide forum.

  • 15 schools across QLD and NT are taking part, linking metro and regional perspectives.

  • 3 of the 4 The Swap schools will attend as one team, showing unity in action.

Zoom in

“Our students, who represent a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds, have keenly felt the impact of issues like cultural misunderstandings, and the often-invisible barriers of language and mental health stigma. They’ve voiced a powerful desire to bridge divides, challenge discrimination, and ensure everyone has a fair shot at success, regardless of their background or access to resources.

“The upcoming Together For Humanity Youth Summit is an incredible opportunity for our students to share their experiences and contribute to solutions that create truly harmonious and equitable communities for all.”
