What’s happening?

Major works on the Gatton – Helidon Road upgrade are expected to be complete by September 2025, with the full project on track for completion by late 2025. The upgrade is delivering road widening, removal of roadside hazards and upgrades to key intersections. These works aim to enhance safety and ease congestion for all road users.

Why it matters

The project stretches from Robinsons Road at Gatton to the Warrego Highway interchange at Helidon, providing safer, smoother and more efficient travel for the Lockyer Valley community and all who use the road. Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg MP said the project was moving towards its conclusion.

“We’re proud to see the Gatton-Helidon Road upgrade entering its final stages. Our teams have worked hard to keep the project on schedule while minimising disruption for road users. Once complete, this road will offer a safer and more efficient journey for everyone who travels through the region,” Mr Mickelberg said.

Local Impact

Residents and road users can expect improved safety, better access and reduced congestion once the upgrade is complete. Construction has progressed steadily with a focus on minimising traffic disruptions, keeping the project on schedule and ensuring that benefits are delivered sooner.

By the numbers

  • September 2025 – Major construction works are expected to wrap up.

  • Late 2025 – Full completion of the project is scheduled.

  • Four sections – The upgrade was divided this way to fast-track delivery and reduce disruption.

  • Two contractors – Worked simultaneously to keep the project on schedule.

Zoom In

To fast-track delivery and reduce long-term disruption, the project was divided into four sections, allowing two contractors to work at the same time. This approach has kept works on schedule while lessening impacts for motorists. Minor delays may still occur during final sealing and line marking, but the end of construction is in sight.

Zoom Out

The Gatton–Helidon Road upgrade is part of ongoing efforts by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to deliver safer and more reliable roads. Improvements such as road widening, hazard removal and intersection upgrades will benefit all road users once complete.

What to look for next

With major works expected to finish by September 2025, road users will begin experiencing the benefits of the upgrade, while final sealing and line marking will continue into late 2025 before the project reaches full completion.
