What’s happening

Grand Central has sponsored a room at the Olive McMahon Lodge, marking a year-long commitment to assist the amenity of those travelling from rural Queensland to Toowoomba to undergo cancer treatment. Cancer Council Queensland said many people may be forced to postpone or refuse treatment due to limited access to cancer support services in rural and remote areas, so it’s important that help reaches them.

“By Sponsoring a Room, you’re doing more than simply offering a place to stay. You’re providing essential support to Queenslanders and their loved ones during some of the most challenging times of their lives,” a Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson said.

Community Relations Manager Georgina Bayly said Grand Central was proud to bring this sponsorship to the Olive McMahon Lodge to make sure that regional Queenslanders don’t have to go through cancer alone. “By donating $10,000, Grand Central is able to support a room in the Lodge for a year which will help many patients from across Queensland who travel to Toowoomba for treatment,” she said.

“This sponsorship allows Cancer Council Queensland to enhance the amenities, and the cancer support services on offer at the Lodge, ensuring guests’ comfort and access to vital support as they go through cancer treatment.”

Why it matters

The sponsorship ensures that more regional Queenslanders can access care without the barrier of accommodation costs or distance from support. Cancer Council Queensland’s work at the Olive McMahon Lodge provides a supportive environment for patients and their families during treatment.
