The quiet farming community of Hamilton, just north of Toowoomba, has been shattered by a murder.
Hampton local Paul Wood, 48, was reported missing on October 14 after going for a ride on an unregistered motorcross boke.
A 45-year-old man from the nearby town of Crows Nest has subsequently been charged with with murder and dismembering a corpse.
The accused man, Shaun James Smoothy, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday as police continued with their investigation.
Crime scenes have been established at a property in Hampton along with a property in Cressbrook Creek, where forensic examinations continue.
Detectives have released an image of a motorcycle as they continue to appeal for information about the case.
Police are yet to locate the missing motorbike and are appealing to anyone with relevant CCTV footage or dashcam of the motorbike in Hampton, Crows Nest and Cressbrook Creek area between 5-6 October, to contact police.
In the 2021 census, the locality of Hampton had a population of just 469 people and it is best known for its antique shop, gift stores and its local produce. The Hampton region’s rich soils make it an ideal farming area and the region supplies much of the state’s rhubarb and avocados.
Detectives from the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Investigation Unit charged the 45-year-old man in Southport on Monday after launching their investigation into the suspicious disappearance of Mr Woods on Friday, last week.
