What’s happening?

Eight community groups across the Western Downs will share $90,000 after the latest round of the Wambo Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund was announced. The funding will support projects and services in Wambo, Jandowae, Jimbour and Ironpot.

Why it matters

The fund supports projects that help create a more connected, sustainable, resilient and healthy community for Jandowae and surrounding districts. It also helps local groups deliver services, improve facilities and support residents of all ages.

Local impact

Funding from this round will support seniors, upgrade community halls, improve event spaces, and help preserve Jandowae’s history. Several groups will also improve safety, access and essential services at much-used venues.

The eight groups receiving funding are:

  • Wambo Cares Inc will strengthen social support for seniors through the Connected Lives project, hosting regular social gatherings for elderly community members.

  • Jandowae and District Show Society will purchase multi-purpose yard dog trials to improve functionality and safety, increase visibility for spectators and reduce future hire costs.

  • Jimbour and District Sport and Recreation Club will install air conditioning and upgrade electrical systems at the Jimbour Community Hall to keep it accessible for future generations.

  • Jandowae Pony Club will purchase a commercial canteen fridge to improve functionality, efficiency and service in the Jandowae Showgrounds Kitchen.

  • Queensland Country Women’s Association (Jingi Valley Branch) will install a water tank to provide clean rainwater and reduce costs.

  • Ironpot Hall Association will build an accessible ramp and upgrade facilities to improve safety and inclusivity for all community members.

  • Jandowae Showgrounds Management Committee will install flood lighting and connect power to the facility for safer night use and a wider range of events.

  • Jandowae and District Progress and Heritage Association will curate a visual display that showcases and preserves the rich history of Jandowae and surrounding districts.
