What’s happening?
Ryley Jewellery Creations is celebrating a standout achievement after former Studio Manager and new graduate jeweller, Lara Quinton, was named Apprentice Jeweller of the Year at the 2025 Métallon Jewellery Awards hosted by TAFE Queensland.
Lara also received two more honours, the Best Technical Aspects Award and the Runner Up Best Folio Award.
Her journey with RJC began in the studio. She later chose to start an apprenticeship under the guidance of Ewen Ryley after feeling inspired by his craft. Her steady progress and growing skill shaped her path as she moved from studio duties into hands-on training.
The Métallon Jewellery Awards are known for showcasing Queensland’s finest apprentice jewellers. This year’s theme, Decade, invited the graduating apprentices to explore both classic style and new design ideas.
Why it matters
Lara’s recognition highlights the strength of RJC’s mentoring culture and the quality of its workshop. It also shows the depth of local creative talent. Her work stood out for its concept, technical detail, and personal influence.
Her winning collection, Cosmic Coalescence, explored time as a fluid and multidimensional experience. It challenged the usual linear view and invited viewers to consider an alternate universe where moments are unique, sustainable, and immeasurable.

Local Impact
Lara’s achievement shows the strength of Queensland’s jewellery community and the value of local training. Her success also highlights RJC’s commitment to skilled handcrafted work and to teaching the next generation of jewellers.

Zoom In
Cosmic Coalescence includes a layered neckpiece, a starburst pendant, and a dress ring shaped with flowing movement. Each piece draws on interstellar ideas and reflects Lara’s own creative journey. The metals show shifting tone and depth, echoing celestial forms and cosmic motion.
Lara said her interest began in a very personal way. “My interest in jewellery manufacturing came about just by chance. I absolutely loved my first custom piece created by Ryley Jewellery Creations, and the sentimental value it held for me. I knew I wanted to be part of an industry that emulated that feeling and connection for other people too.”
She described the awards night as moving. “It was such a lovely and unexpected surprise, and an incredibly emotional moment for me. I feel incredibly honoured to be recognised from the industry for my work.”
Her focus remains on the relationship between maker and client. “For me, the best part of being a jeweller is being able to bring a client’s vision to life. There’s something really special about being part of that journey.
