Clean bill of health for council finances

Toowoomba Regional Council

The Queensland Treasury Corporation has given Toowoomba Regional Council’s finances a clean bill of health in its annual check-up.

For council’s credit rating has been determined to be “Sound with a Neutral outlook”, the same rating the council has received at least since 2022.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said the announcement represented a strong and encouraging result for the community.

“Our community can take real confidence from this,’’ he said.

“It’s pleasing to see Council’s careful financial management and ongoing commitment to responsibly delivering essential services recognised in this way.

Despite the result, it did not stop the Mayor from demanding more from the Federal Government.

He said all levels of government continued to face significant cost pressures.

“Right across the country, local councils are standing together to call for the restoration of untied Financial Assistance Grants to one per cent of Federal tax revenue,’’ he said.

“These grants are vital for supporting growing communities like ours.

“Despite a significant reduction in Financial Assistance Grants during the past five years, our Council has continued to plan responsibly and deliver.

“We should not be disadvantaged because of our strong financial stewardship.”
