What’s happening?
The Australian Senior Open will be contested for the first time in more than a decade when it returns to the PGA Legends Tour schedule at City Golf Club in Toowoomba.
The tournament will run from October 2 to 4, 2026, under a new three-year agreement between the club and the tour.
It was last played in 2012 and will now be reinstated on the national schedule.
Weekend coverage will be shown live on Fox and Kayo.
City Golf Club has a strong history with elite events. The club previously hosted the Queensland PGA Championship for 11 editions from 2009 to 2020 and regularly stages PGA Legends Tour Pro Am tournaments.
Golf Australia has endorsed the use of the Australian Senior Open title, allowing it to sit alongside other national Open championships.
Why it matters
The return of the championship strengthens the PGA Legends Tour calendar and restores a recognised national title.
Nick Dastey, General Manager of Tournaments and Global Tour Relationships at the PGA of Australia, welcomed the announcement.
“We are very pleased to see the Australian Senior Open make its long-awaited return to the PGA Legends Tour schedule, and our thanks go to City Golf Club for their outstanding show of support in committing to host the championship for the next three years,” he said.
“City Golf Club has been a popular Tour stop in the past, and we are sure our Legends Tour members will enjoy teeing it up in Toowoomba again later this year.”
The reinstated title now sits alongside the men’s Australian Open, played in December, and the upcoming women’s Australian Open in March.
Local impact
Hosting the Australian Senior Open places Toowoomba firmly back on the national golfing stage.
Ed Britnell, President of City Golf Club, said the agreement reflects confidence in the venue and the region.
“We are incredibly proud to be hosting the Australian Senior Open at City Golf Club, Toowoomba, for the next three years. This is a major vote of confidence in our course, our facilities, and our people, and it places Toowoomba firmly on the national golfing stage.
“We look forward to welcoming Australia’s best senior professionals and showcasing everything our club and region have to offer.”
The event will bring leading senior professionals to the Darling Downs and showcase the club to a national television audience.
