Toowoomba is set to host a Creative Industry Summit next week as it starts a major recruitment campaign to replace the board of Empire Theatres.
The Creative Industry Summit, to be held at The Annexe on Friday, March 13, is designed to help shape the creative future of the region.
The summit will focus on the intersection between art, culture, technology and entrepreneurship.
“Our Region is fortunate to have a thriving arts and cultural scene that helps drive economic development, contributes to broader regional goals and boosts tourism,” Councillor Melissa Taylor said.
“The Creative Industries Summit also provides an opportunity to strengthen industry networks.”
Meanwhile, Toowoomba Regional Council has recruited executive recruitment company OnTalent to search for new members of the Empire Theatres board.
The current board’s term expires on April 17, and the council is looking for experienced directors to join in a paid capacity.
Council chief executive officer Sal Petroccitto said the recruitment campaign was an important milestone in shaping the next chapter of the Empire Theatres’ story.
“The council is undertaking a detailed review of its controlled entities to ensure they are well positioned for the future,” he said.
“This recruitment process will support the governance of the Empire Theatres and strengthen its role as a cultural, social and economic asset for our region.”
The online advertisements say, “there are multiple appointments available, with 18-month and three-year terms”.
“Collectively, the Board will provide balanced oversight across governance, financial stewardship, compliance, risk management and strategic growth.
“Directors who understand the interplay between artistic excellence, commercial sustainability and community relevance will be particularly valued.”
