What’s Happening

Wesley Mission CEO Reverend Stu Cameron has urged Toowoomba locals to keep trusting God’s plan during difficult times.

He spoke on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the 32nd Toowoomba Mayoral Prayer Breakfast at Rumours.

The event brought together 400 people for prayer, music, testimony and fundraising.

Rev. Cameron said Wesley Mission’s founding ideals still mattered today.

The organisation’s focus on serving the community in spirit, word and deed remained relevant, he said.

“Keep pressing into God’s presence. Trust in God’s plan, which is always better than our own plans,” Rev. Cameron said.

He said many people were now seeking help after previously managing without support.

“In times where we are seeing people come to us who have not struggled previously, we at the Wesley Mission, like others, have the privilege of providing a listening ear and a helping hand,” he said.

Why It Matters

Rev. Cameron’s message centred on service, faith and practical care for people under pressure.

He said asking for help could be difficult, but support was often close by.

“Australians are a generous people,” Rev. Cameron said.

“The first step when looking for help is often the hardest, but when people put their hand up seeking help, others are only too happy to reach their own hand out ready to assist.”

He also warned against placing too much hope in material things.

“We are more than what we accumulate,” he said.

“We must rejoice in the meaningful relationships we have.

“We are made to love God and each other and must not be conned by investing our hope in material things, which will let us down.”

By the Numbers

  • The 2026 breakfast was the 32nd Toowoomba Mayoral Prayer Breakfast, continuing a long local fundraising tradition.
  • About 400 people attended the event at Rumours on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
  • The breakfast has raised more than $335,000 for charities across the Toowoomba Region since it began.

Local Impact

Funds raised from the 2026 Mayoral Prayer Breakfast will support Toowoomba Hospice and PCYC Toowoomba.

Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald thanked sponsors and supporters for their ongoing generosity.

The funds will be presented to both organisations in coming weeks.

The breakfast was started by former Toowoomba City Council Mayor Ross Miller to raise funds for drought relief.

That original purpose has since grown into wider support for charities across the region.

Zoom In

Rev. Cameron pointed to practical examples of service through Wesley Mission’s work.

He cited Lifeline, founded by the Wesley organisation, as one continuing example of community care.

He also mentioned Wesley Mission’s work in gambling reform.

Locally, he referenced Winter Shelter Toowoomba as another example of practical help.

The program sees participating Toowoomba churches offer overnight accommodation and food for residents in need during winter.

Rev. Cameron also quoted English writer G. K. Chesterton.

“English writer G. K. Chesterton’s assertion that, ‘We do not want a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world’, is a reminder of the church’s call to bless and serve the community,” he said.

Zoom Out

The morning opened with an Acknowledgement of Country by Pastor Ada Boland.

Kath Warner then gave a scripture reading.

Rev. Peter Mayen of St James’ Anglican Church led a prayer.

Toowoomba musician Brendon Walmsley and his band performed three items.

Former barber and hairdressing instructor Geoff Lingard also shared his testimony.

His message focused on how people can use their skills and life experience to help others.

Pastor Andrew Hoey, Senior Minister at Rangeville Community Church, also spoke at the event.

As committee chair, he thanked the guest performers, speakers and supporters.

What To Look For Next?

The money raised from the 2026 breakfast will be presented to Toowoomba Hospice and PCYC Toowoomba in coming weeks.

The event’s long fundraising record suggests the annual breakfast will remain a steady source of support for local charities.
