Australian family-owned waste and resource recovery company Wanless has returned to Toowoomba with a new locally based operation. The branch is now providing commercial waste and recycling services to businesses across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

Long-term residents may remember the company’s blue trucks and butterfly branding, which were once familiar sights around Toowoomba. Mr Carr said those memories had helped the returning business reconnect with the community.
“I haven’t been with Wanless for all of that history, but you quickly realise how well known the name is around Toowoomba. So many of the local businesses I’ve spoken to remember Wanless and the old blue trucks, and they’re genuinely happy to see us back. It feels like we’re already part of the community again,” Mr Carr said. “There’s something special about bringing the Wanless name back to a region where it has such a strong history. For me, it’s about building on those existing connections, creating new ones, and showing local businesses that we’re here to support them, for the long term.”

Since its earlier years in Toowoomba, Wanless has grown into a significant waste management and resource recovery business. It now operates across Australia’s eastern seaboard while remaining owned by the Wanless family.
Wanless Chief Operating Officer Peter O’Malley said the company wanted to become part of Toowoomba’s business community.
“We don’t see Toowoomba as simply another service area,” Mr O’Malley said. “We’re investing in a local operation because we want to be part of the Toowoomba business community. That means giving Toowoomba a local team they know they can rely on.”
For Wanless, the return brings its past and future together. The familiar local name now carries a much larger scale of capability behind it.
