Entries are now open for the 2026 People First Bank Photographic Awards. The national competition is free to enter and open to Australians of all ages and experience levels.
Now in its 38th year, the competition accepts photographs taken using either a camera or mobile phone.
Acting Chief Customer Officer Michael Töns said the awards provide an opportunity for people to share their perspectives through photography.
“For nearly four decades, the photographic awards have given people the opportunity to share their unique perspectives and see the world through different eyes,” Mr Töns said.
Why It Matters
The awards are designed to include both experienced photographers and people picking up a camera for the first time.
This year’s themed category, All Kinds of Good, invites photographers to capture everyday moments, people and places that show the good happening around them.

“Whether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or have years of experience behind the lens, the awards are designed to be accessible and inclusive.
“All you need is a camera or phone, a little imagination and a story to tell.”
Local Impact
Toowoomba will host an exhibition featuring finalist images later this year. Adelaide will also host an exhibition.
The competition is open nationally, allowing people across Australia to enter regardless of age or photography experience.
By The Numbers
- $50,000 in prizes is available through the 2026 People First Bank Photographic Awards.
- $15,000 will go to the winner of the All Kinds of Good category, while the Open category also offers $15,000.
- 38 years marks the history of the national photographic competition in 2026.

Several categories are available to entrants. The All Kinds of Good theme category offers $15,000, while the Open category offers the same amount for photographs of any subject or style.
The Illustrative category offers $5,000 for digitally manipulated images. Another $5,000 is available for the best photograph taken on a mobile phone, while the CEO’s Choice also offers $5,000.
Youth categories are available for photographers aged nine and under, 10 to 13, and 14 to 17.

The awards celebrate photography as a way to tell stories, encourage creativity and capture the spirit of communities.
Mr Töns said the competition aims to remain accessible to photographers regardless of their experience.

What To Look For Next?
Entries close at 5pm AEST on 23 October 2026.
Winners will be announced on 23 November 2026. Finalist images will also feature in exhibitions in Toowoomba and Adelaide later this year.
