Ambulance officers honoured for their bravery

Six ambulance officers have received awards for bravery for attempting to save the life of Toowoomba police officer after he had been shot by a gun man in 2017.

Nicholas Anthony Abussi, Adam Ross Flory, Steven John Apthorp, Douglas McKenzie, Maria Frances Mourilyan, Lay Jane Ong and Jamieson Woods all have received commendations for brave conduct in relation to the shocking incident.

The six officers were sent to Gatton the afternoon of May 29, 2017 after fugitive Ricky Maddison shot police officer Senior Constable Brett Forte was shot .

Despite being urged to take cover because Maddison was still shooting, the six ambulance officers attempted to save Snr Const Forte’s life.

The brave conduct citation from the Governor General’s office said the ambulance officers continued working even though “multiple gunshots could be heard from an unknown location as they were treating the wounded officer”.

Sadly, Snr Const Forte could not be saved.
