What’s happening
Netball Australia and Glucojel have announced a new partnership to Back the Bid for netball’s inclusion in the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
Aussie netball icon and Chair of Netball Australia, Liz Ellis AO, is leading the national campaign, supported by Glucojel and more than 80,000 supporters across Australia and the world.
The strategic collaboration was launched as part of Netball Australia’s Back the Bid campaign, aiming to rally national and international support to secure netball’s place in the Olympic program.
Liz Ellis AO and Professor Trent Twomey, President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia (owners of Glucojel), appeared together in Canberra to call on every Australian, from ministers to mums and dads, to sign the pledge to help make Olympic netball a reality.
Why it matters
Liz Ellis said netball’s Olympic inclusion would recognise the sport’s popularity and strength.
“Netball is selling out stadiums in Australia and around the world, our national team is one of the world’s best, and netball is the most popular sport for women and girls in this country. The chance for netball to play in the Olympic Games in 2032 is a real possibility, and we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come together and make this dream a reality,” she said.
She added that more than 80,000 people have already signed the pledge. “Every week, in every city, town and suburb across Australia, thousands of people, young and old, come together and take to the netball court. It’s part of our national DNA. We’re honoured to be supported by Glucojel in this bid that unites community netball and community pharmacy, and what’s more iconic than netball and jellybeans?”
Professor Trent Twomey said the partnership reflects the mission of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. “For us, netball means community. It brings people together, strengthens bonds, creates healthy communities and inspires our young people,” he said.
He added, “And just like netball is played in every city and town across Australia, every community is supported and served by local pharmacies. That’s why this bid is so important, it’s about more than sport. It also promotes women’s and girls’ health, being active and off the screens and forming lifelong relationships. Getting netball included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics isn’t just about winning. Netball showcases to the world the Australian spirit of inclusion, of having a go, and of having fun.”
Local Impact
The Brisbane 2032 Olympics provide a unique opportunity for Australians to witness one of the nation’s most loved sports on home soil. The campaign is energising communities across every city, town, and suburb where netball continues to thrive as part of Australia’s sporting culture.
