What’s happening?

The Carinity Brownesholme community in Highfields has celebrated the 30th anniversary of the opening of its retirement village. The milestone was marked with a gathering of residents, family members, friends, and invited guests.

Why it matters

The retirement village exists because of the generosity of Isobel ‘Molly’ Browne. Before her passing in 1985, Molly bequeathed her 120-acre property to the Baptist Union of Queensland for the development of a retirement village and aged care home.

Local impact

Her vision was honoured during the anniversary with the unveiling of a special sign. Designed by Brownesholme resident Eunice Brumpton, the sign was revealed by Carinity CEO Kevin Griffiths and Toowoomba Region Councillor Kerry Shine. Shine had officially opened new stages of the retirement village more than 20 years ago.

By the numbers

  • 120 acres – the size of Molly Browne’s farm gifted to the Baptist Union of Queensland to create the retirement village and aged care home.

  • 1995 – the year Brownesholme retirement village opened, a decade after Molly Browne’s passing, welcoming the first residents.

  • 2021 – the year the Brownesholme residential aged care home was completed, fulfilling Molly’s vision of care for seniors at all stages.
