Toowoomba police have teamed up with regional colleagues to charge 29 people with 50 offences following a targeted drug and traffic operation at a music festival in the South Burnett over the Easter long weekend.
Officers from Toowoomba, Murgon and Kingaroy, with assistance from the Brisbane Dog Squad and Road Policing Taskforce conducted Operation Xray Bandelier over the four day s.
Police conducted 1761 random breath test and 265 random drug tests at the event on Stonelands Road at Stonelands. They also searched 19 vehicles and 23 people.
During the operation police seized 15 grams of cannabis, four grams of cocaine, two grams of amphetamines, three MDMA tablets, three LSD tablets, and one vial of steroids as well as cash and drug utensils.
Police have charged 24 people with 45 drug offences, two people with drink driving offences and three people for unlicensed driving.
Another 25 people were issued with Traffic Infringement Notices.
Acting Inspector Brett Everest said police would continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to anyone bringing illegal drugs to public events.
“It’s incredibly disappointing to see that despite our continued warnings we still have people who think it is okay to attend these family friendly events while under the influence of drugs,’’ he said.
“And what’s even more concerning is that a number of those intercepted by police who had gotten behind the wheel, putting other people’s lives at risk.
“This operation sends a clear message – if you’re thinking of attending public events with drugs, we’ll be looking for you.”
