Toowoomba Council is looking for future leaders.
The council is inviting people aged 14 to 18 to apply for its 2027 Regional Youth Leaders Program.
TRC Community Development, Facilities and Tourism portfolio spokesperson Cr James O’Shea said the program provided opportunities for young people to build leadership skills, engage with their community, and represent the voices of their peers.
“Running since 2015, the Youth Leaders Program brings together 25 young people from across the region to learn about local government, connect with community organisations, and advocate on issues that matter to young people,” Cr O’Shea said.
“Our Youth Leaders play a vital role in helping Council ensure its programs are relevant, inclusive and accessible to young people across the region.
“With close to 30,000 young people living in the Toowoomba Region, we’re looking for applicants who can bring fresh ideas, energy and a passion for making a positive difference in their communities.”
Cr O’Shea said the program has delivered a range of successful initiatives, including supporting local youth services, organising community events, delivering environmental projects and volunteering.
“Youth Leaders have also had opportunities to represent the region at local, state and national forums, contributing to youth policy development at all levels of government,” he said.
To be eligible, applicants must be high school aged (14–18 years old as at 31 December 2027), live, work or study within the Toowoomba Regional Council area, be able to attend monthly meetings, and participate in two training camps scheduled for September and December this year.
Applications close on July 31.
