What’s happening?

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is seeking public feedback on its Toowoomba Region Parking Strategy Refresh, an updated approach to parking management in the CBD and across the region.

Submissions are open until Friday, 13 December 2024, via the Council’s Your Say platform.

TRC Transport and Drainage Planning portfolio spokesperson Cr Trevor Manteufel emphasised the need for community involvement, saying, “Council appreciates how the availability of on and off-street car parking plays an important role in supporting the businesses and services that are offered across the Region.”

Why it matters?

The parking strategy will help TRC address changing community needs driven by population growth, evolving business activity, and transportation services.

“It is appropriate to seek feedback from all CBD businesses and visitors, considering the existing Toowoomba City Centre Car Parking Strategy was implemented in 2019 to address the requirements at that time,” said Cr Manteufel.

Local Impact

The review will directly affect residents, business owners, shoppers, and workers who rely on convenient parking in Toowoomba’s CBD and surrounding areas.

Cr Manteufel stressed, “Council was keen to seek responses about how, when and where they visited or parked in Toowoomba’s CBD and the Region more broadly.”

By the Numbers

  • 5 years since the implementation of the 2019 Toowoomba City Centre Car Parking Strategy, reflecting outdated demands.
  • 3rd largest regional population in Queensland, highlighting increased demand for parking facilities.
  • Unspecified regional growth statistics signal the rising pressure on public infrastructure, including parking.

Zoom In

Toowoomba’s CBD is a critical economic hub, and efficient parking management supports local businesses and services.

The refresh is timely given the growing interest in parking solutions that balance accessibility, affordability, and sustainability.

Zoom Out

The strategy aligns with broader regional trends as other growing Queensland towns adopt comprehensive parking plans to address congestion and boost economic activity.

The review reflects a shift towards community-driven infrastructure planning.

What to look for next?

Following the consultation period ending on 13 December 2024, TRC will analyse feedback and propose updates to the Parking Strategy.
