What’s happening?
Toowoomba’s Central Square will light up this Saturday, 5 April, as the Toowoomba International Multicultural Society hosts a vibrant Harmony Day Picnic at Grand Central.
From 10am to 2pm, the family-friendly event promises free cultural entertainment, inspiring speakers, and a brand-new fashion show showcasing traditional attire from around the world.
Why it matters
Harmony Day highlights the importance of inclusivity, unity, and cultural appreciation. This event encourages residents of all backgrounds to come together and celebrate the cultural richness of the Toowoomba Region.
Community Relations Manager Georgina Bayly said, “This year’s Harmony Day Picnic will be a fantastic opportunity to experience new foods, engage in cultural activities, and spend quality time with your family.” She added, “We owe a special thanks to the Toowoomba International Multicultural Society and all the community groups who come together to organise this event and put together the wonderful performances and food for this day of celebration.”
Local Impact
Organisers and community leaders are committed to making this a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for everyone. Harmony Day Co-Chair Maud Bagnall said, “We welcome everyone to join in our Harmony Day festivities to celebrate cultural diversity and promote inclusivity.”
She encouraged people to come prepared for a full day of enjoyment: “There is so much to see and do throughout the event, and we encourage you to bring a cushion or blanket to sit on while you enjoy the food, the performances and the festivities of this beautiful community event.”
