The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating following a fatal traffic crash at East Greenmount on Tuesday.
Initial investigations indicate that around 6.11 am, a white Toyota Land Cruiser was travelling north along the New England Highway when it collided with a grey Mitsubishi Outlander travelling in the opposite direction.
The male driver of the Mitsubishi, a 38-year-old Mungindi man, was declared dead at the scene, while a female passenger, a 28-year-old Mungindi woman, was transported to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the Land Cruiser, a 41-year-old Kings Creek man, was transported to Toowoomba Hospital for observation.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have relevant information, dashcam vision or witnessed the crash to come forward.
