What’s Happening?
Pilots in Clifton are being invited to a free aviation safety seminar focused on better decision-making before and during flights.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is running the session as part of its latest safety seminar program. The seminar will focus on how pilots make decisions, why those decisions matter, and how safer calls can reduce risk in the cockpit.
Aviation safety advisor Tim Penney said decision-making is part of every stage of flying.
“When flying, a pilot makes decisions in every action before and during a flight, including pre-flight planning and go/no-go decisions,” Tim said.
Why It Matters?
Poor decision-making continues to be a leading cause of aircraft accidents worldwide.
For local pilots, the seminar is a chance to refresh key safety habits and think more clearly under pressure. It also offers practical guidance for both pre-flight planning and in-flight decision-making.
Tim said different decision types can affect safety in different ways.
“Different types of decision-making have different impacts in the cockpit, plus there are a range of factors that affect a pilot’s thinking and actions.”
By The Numbers
- The Clifton seminar will run for two hours, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm AEST on Saturday, 30 May 2026.
- The session will be held at Lone Eagle Flying School, 549 Clifton Leyburn Road, Clifton, Queensland.
- Civil Aviation Safety Authority aviation safety advisors host free seminars across Australia each year to help pilots refresh skills and improve flight safety.
Local Impact
The Clifton session gives local and regional pilots access to safety training without needing to travel far.
It is open to everyone, from new pilots to experienced flyers. Refreshments will also be provided, making the session accessible and practical for the local aviation community.
Zoom In
A Bureau of Meteorology forecaster will join the Clifton seminar as a special guest.
The forecaster will speak about forecasting and local weather conditions. Pilots will also be able to ask questions, which is important for safe planning in regional flying conditions.
Tim said the session will offer clear tips pilots can use straight away.
“At the end of an informative session, you’ll get practical tips to improve your decision-making skills and be safer every time you fly.”
Zoom Out
The Clifton seminar is part of a wider national effort to improve flight safety across Australia.
By focusing on decision-making, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority is addressing one of aviation’s most important safety issues. The session also reinforces how planning, weather awareness, and cockpit judgement all work together.
What To Look For Next?
Pilots and aviation community members can book their spot online for the Clifton Time to Decide seminar.
The session takes place on Saturday, 30 May 2026, at Lone Eagle Flying School in Clifton. It will give local pilots a practical chance to sharpen decision-making skills before their next flight.
