What’s happening?
More than 90% of registrars enrolled in the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program are satisfied with their training and education experience, according to the latest National Registrar Survey by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
This result marks a 5% increase in satisfaction compared to 2023, demonstrating the RACGP’s success since taking over full responsibility for GP training in 2023.
Why it matters
The findings reflect a well-supported generation of future GPs—vital for regional communities like Toowoomba that rely on consistent, high-quality medical care. The RACGP’s leadership is enhancing Australia’s primary healthcare pipeline.
“Registrars are telling us that the College is meeting their needs when it comes to GP training and education,” said RACGP President Dr Michael Wright.
He added, “The fact that there has been a 5.2% increase in overall training and education satisfaction compared to 2023 shows that the College is providing a positive experience for the vast majority of registrars. It’s also great to see a 10% or greater increase in registrar satisfaction from 2023 to 2024 in multiple areas.”
Local Impact
Toowoomba, with its well-regarded general practices and medical training providers, stands to benefit from this uplift. The survey included over 1,000 AGPT registrars—many of whom train at regional and rural sites across Queensland, including Toowoomba.
Dr Wright emphasised, “We continue listening to registrars in order to improve our services and do all we can to give them the best training and education experience.”
Importantly, more than 91% of respondents participated in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety or awareness training—essential for delivering inclusive care across regional Queensland.
