Genex Power is a step closer to developing Australia’s largest grid-connected solar farm southwest of Toowoomba.
The Queensland Government-owned Stanwell Corporation has signed a 15-year deal to buy 550 MW of electricity from the first stage of the Bulli Creek solar farm project, which is being developed about 125km from Toowoomba.
The agreement means Genex has secured the pre-sale of 71 per cent of the power planned to be generated in the first stage and it will use the agreement to raise debt and equity to fund the construction.
The project is expected to create up to 800 jobs during construction, which is due to start in early 2025.
The two organisations are also in talks about other potential partnerships.
The Bulli Creek project is a 775MW solar facility that is planned to be the first stage of a 2GW solar energy plant and battery facility.
When operational as planned in 2027, Bulli Creek will be the largest solar farm connected to the National Electricity Market.
