New local optometrist opens – Toowoomba’s first environmentally friendly practice.

Toowoomba welcomes its newest optometrist, LA Optical (previously known as Chas Sankey Fraser Optometrists), which just opened on July 1 at 78 Margaret Street.

Notably, it is the city’s only environmentally friendly optometry practice.

Why It Matters

LA Optical, named after the owners Lauren Hess and Abby Ussher, will offer personalised eye care solutions using advanced technology, with a strong focus on preventative eye care for people in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs region.

Working together previously, they were abruptly forced to leave their prior practice as it was taken over by a corporate company.

With a combined ten years of experience as optometrists, Lauren and Abby wanted to remain in the industry while staying independent moving forward.

As both Lauren and Abby have young children, they needed a working environment that allowed flexibility to suit their needs, so teaming up made perfect sense.

By going out on their own as LA Optical, they could continue to use their highly sought-after skills while tending to family commitments.

Local Impact

Lauren and Abby provide a wealth of expertise for the region by offering locals the benefits of their knowledge and high-quality optometry service options.

From eye health checks and prescription glasses to specialised services like dry eye treatments, children’s vision exams, women’s eye health, diabetic checks, myopia control, and contact lenses (including OrthoK), they aim to be the complete eye care provider for the community.

From a business and philosophy point of view, their commitment extends to both the environment and the people of the Darling Downs region.

Bulk billing is available for concession card holders and they also do CASA aviation vision examinations.

Abby said, “We have only been open for 18 days, and it has been going incredibly well. Lauren and I have a lot of experience in the industry, having worked together for five years at another practice before it got bought out. We are excited to roll up our sleeves and help locals in the region.”
