What’s Happening
It’s that time of year when Gympie Music Muster devotees stake their claims on their favourite campsites during The One and Only Rope Off, starting at 7 am on Saturday, August 3.
A Tradition of Community Spirit
The Muster is renowned for its vibrant community spirit, and the Rope Off Fun is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow music lovers, share stories, and build lasting friendships. It’s more than just securing a spot; it’s about being part of a tradition that celebrates music, camaraderie, and the unique culture of the Muster.
Camping Site Stakes
More than 1500 camping sites are expected to be claimed on August 3, with The One and Only Rope Off tickets being in high demand. These tickets can only be purchased by four-day ticketholders and entitle those music lovers to get in early, stake their claim, and guarantee their camping site for the next four weeks. The Gympie Music Muster officially starts on August 22, with pre-Muster events beginning on August 17.
A Veteran’s Perspective
James Booth has been roping off his site early for nearly 20 years, camping with a group of 18 to ensure a good spot. “Back in those days, most people camped in tents, so a lot of tents could be fitted onto one site. Nowadays, there are many more caravans, so roping off is a really good option,” he said. “We’ve been camping in the same spot for 18 years. These days I camp with a caravan. There are about three caravans in our group, and the rest are in tents and swags.”
The interstate truck driver said rope off has “always been good fun because it’s the lead-up to the festival” and it’s a special event for him. “The Muster is not just a music festival; the camping experience is all part of the reason I go back every year,” the Brisbane man said. “There are people I’ve met in the campgrounds who have become personal friends, whom we only see every year at the Muster.”
Attendees from Far and Wide
Although most of his party are from Brisbane, others travel from Hervey Bay, and there’s even a couple traveling all the way across Bass Strait from Tasmania to enjoy the Muster this year. James will join the other festival goers this weekend in staking their claim on their campsite.
Logistics and Amenities
Those with rope-off passes can remain on their campsites for the next four weeks; however, amenities will not be available until August 17. Alternatively, you can mark your spot with rope and stakes in Areas 1 (5-Ways Sth), 2 (5-Ways Nth), 3 (Bellbird Bend), 4 (Poulsen’s Flat & Overflow), 5 (Poulsen’s Hill), 6 (Feral Hill), and 8 (Blue Gum Ridge), and return closer to the event.
Although Rope Off does not begin until 7 am on Saturday, queuing officially commences this Thursday. A coffee van will be on-site on Saturday, and portable toilets will be provided for the rope-off weekend.
