Julz McBain, Creative Director at TFF, emphasised the transformative potential of this opportunity.

“The support from the CommBank Matildas has the potential to be a game-changer for the Toowoomba Fashion Festival. Having such an iconic and inspirational team backing us will help shine a national spotlight on our event and the incredible talent in and around our region. We are excited to be part of this national advertising campaign as it will not only help elevate Toowoomba as a destination for creativity and style, but also amplify the voices of the many designers, models, and businesses we work hard to support. With the momentum we’ve built since launching, the support of the CommBank Matildas will inspire even more people to experience the diversity and vibrancy of Toowoomba’s fashion scene, while creating pathways for our community to thrive.”

Rachael Carter, Managing Director of Mosaic Hues, highlighted the importance of visibility for migrant women.

“Mosaic Hues was born out of a desire to empower refugee women as they start their life in Australia and recognise the meaningful contribution they make to our growing community. The support of the CommBank Matildas will have an exceptional impact on our work to shine a light on the incredible abilities and potential of migrant women which may otherwise be overlooked.”

Zoom Out

CommBank’s initiative reflects ongoing national efforts to uplift small businesses amid economic uncertainty, promoting resilience and community growth. CommBank’s Queensland General Manager David Coote explained,

“This just shows the resilience of Aussie small businesses who are incredibly brave in the face of continued economic uncertainty. It’s been incredible to see the overwhelming response from thousands of Aussie small businesses who entered the competition. We are thrilled to be able to support Toowoomba Fashion Festival and Mosaic Hues in this way and I hope this campaign will create a powerful impact for them, and an unforgettable moment in their history.”

CommBank Matildas players also see parallels between sport and business. Midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross stated,

“You have to show up every day and we’re both under quite a lot of pressure.”

Goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln added,

“Slow and steady wins the race and that goes for both – it takes a lot of hard work, and it’ll take time as well. Making sure that you have that vision, and you keep working towards that goal. Setbacks will come but it’s how you can overcome it – little steps each day.”

Defender Charli Grant shared a personal perspective,

“I have friends that own a business, and I know how much hard work goes into it. I definitely have a newfound appreciation for them.”
