What’s happening?
The Toowoomba Hospice and Toowoomba PCYC’s youth and community programs will share proceeds from the 2026 Mayoral Prayer Breakfast.
The breakfast will be held at 6 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Rumours International.
Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald said the event would support two organisations with a strong local role.
“The Toowoomba Hospice has provided dignified palliative care for people with terminal illness and supported their families and friends since opening in July 2003,” Mayor McDonald said.
“Like all not-for-profit organisations, the Toowoomba Hospice relies on community support and funding to deliver its valuable services.”
Why it matters?
The breakfast will help fund palliative care support and youth programs in Toowoomba.
It also comes after a difficult period for the local PCYC.
Mayor McDonald said funds would help the organisation continue its work with young people.
“Funds also will be directed to the Toowoomba PCYC to help them deliver their youth and community programs,” he said.
“The Mayoral Prayer Breakfast can offer financial assistance to help the Toowoomba PCYC continue its programs aiding disadvantaged and disconnected youth.”
Local Impact
The funding for Toowoomba PCYC follows the fire that destroyed its facility on March 19, 2026.
Mayor McDonald said the local response had been strong.
“Our community was shocked and saddened by the loss of the Toowoomba PCYC facility in a fire on March 19 this year and has responded magnificently with offers of assistance for equipment and arrangements for temporary facilities.”
The support raised through the breakfast will now help the service continue its work in the community.
