The Toowoomba Rugby League has announced that is has terminated the membership of the Newtown Lions Football Club.
Toowoomba Rugby League chairman Joe Hannant said the decision followed a review of Newtown’s 2024 season performance and its ongoing capacity to meet competition requirements.
“After a review, which included a discussion with a Newtown representative, we decided to terminate Newtown’s membership with the TRL,’’ Hannant said in a statement release on the TRL’s Facebook page.
“We thank Newtown for their recent participation and wish them well in the future.”
Newtown Lions had planned to host its AGM on Tuesday this week but the club postponed the meeting until Sunday, November 17.

The club re-entered the local competition in 2019 but in 2024 the club struggled to fill its A-Grade team and dropped out of the competition after the 2024 season had started.
