What’s happening?
On 1 July 2025, Globetrotters Travel & Cruise, one of Queensland’s longest continuously operating travel agencies, will rebrand as Global Travel Co. This transition represents the next step in a 75-year journey for a Toowoomba-based business that has helped locals explore the world since 1949.
Originally launched as Darling Downs Travel Agency, the business evolved to Darling Downs Travel, then Globetrotters Travel & Cruise in the early 2000s to reflect a broader, modern offering. Now, with decades of history behind it, the team is stepping confidently into the future.

“This is still your local travel agency — just with a name ready to go further,” says Ben Apsey, Director and long-time leader of the business. “We’re proud of our past – and we’re building something even bigger. The name Global Travel Co isn’t just about where our clients go. It’s also about where we’re heading.”
Why it Matters
The rebrand not only reflects a change in name, but a vision for growth and adaptability in a rapidly evolving industry. “From handwritten airline tickets to the rise of online bookings and now AI planning tools — we’ve seen it all and evolved with every change,” says Ben.
The company joined the Travellers Choice national network in 2007, combining the personal service of a local agency with the buying power and supplier connections of a multi-award-winning national group.
“Since joining Travellers Choice in 2007, we’ve been able to offer the best of both worlds — the personal touch of a local agency, with the buying power and connections of a multi-award-winning national network,” Ben explained.
Local Impact
Throughout its 75-year history, the business has remained a cornerstone of the Toowoomba community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when international travel ground to a halt, the agency didn’t close — it adapted.
A coffee station was added to the Margaret Street office, creating a welcoming space for locals. “Those years tested us, but they also reminded us who we are,” says Ben. “We’ve always been more than a booking service — we’re a community hub, a place where people come to dream, plan, and share their stories.”
The business also expanded its offering to include luggage and travel accessories, becoming a one-stop shop for travel preparation and friendly advice.
