Over the last 64 years 45 Queenslanders have travelled to countries such as Timor- Leste, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, American Samoa and beyond in order to share their skills with the assistance of Palms Australia.

Palms’ Executive Director, Soraya Kassim, said “ Some of the roles they have fulfilled there include Agriculturist/Livestock Mentor, English and Community Development Mentor and Organisational Development Mentor. The trick is though that they didn’t just do these jobs – they were there to pass on their skills to the locals.”

Palms Australia is an Australian development assistance organisation which specialises in sending Australians overseas for ‘mutual exchange’

Soraya Kassim is in Toowoomba this month to meet with Queensland organisations to explore further collaborations to expand overseas volunteering opportunities.

Palms will be hosting a Discovery Information Session in Toowoomba on April 26th to talk about opportunities for skilled Australians to share their skills with an overseas community.

“We have invited some of our local volunteers who have recently returned from Timor- Leste, to share a bit about their experiences there” said Soraya Kassim. “This is a great opportunity to hear from them first hand.”

To register for the event, you can visit the Palms Toowoomba Information Session.
