What’s happening?
Community feedback is now open on proposed safety improvements along a busy stretch of the New England Highway. The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is seeking public input on planned upgrades between East Greenmount and the Cunningham Highway intersection.
The project, currently in detailed design, aims to improve safety at known risk locations, including the Nobby Connection Road intersection.
Why it matters
This section of highway is heavily used by local commuters, freight operators, and regional travellers. Planned upgrades are expected to reduce crash risks, enhance turning movements, and create a safer road environment for all users.
“These improvements are designed to deliver real safety benefits for all who use this stretch of highway,” a TMR spokesperson said. “Local knowledge will help ensure the right solutions are implemented.”
Local Impact
Residents, transport companies, and daily road users are encouraged to share their views to shape the final design. Engagement activities will take place over the coming months, allowing the community to raise concerns and suggestions.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, after the design phase wraps up in August 2025.
