Highfields locals, gear up for a change in your daily routes as utility works commence at the Kratzke Road and Highfields Road intersection starting Monday, March 4, 2024.

Toowoomba Regional Council Infrastructure Services General Manager, Mike Brady, urges residents to plan their journeys wisely as this critical project unfolds.

Preparing the Ground

Preparatory works, including the construction of a temporary road linking Highfields Road and O’Brien Road, have already kicked off.

This temporary route aims to maintain access to businesses and community services during the construction period.

The Toowoomba Regional Council is strategically implementing staged road closures on Kratzke Road and Highfields Road to minimise overall traffic disruption.

Collaboration for a Safer Tomorrow

Collaborating with Ergon, the Council is set to underground high-voltage powerlines later in the year, ensuring a safer and more reliable infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the 2022 Flood Recovery Program is progressing, addressing roads and culverts in the greater Highfields area, still requiring replacement or upgrades.

The Woolmer Road culvert, significantly impacted by the February 2022 flood event, is undergoing a three-month closure, weather permitting.

Forward Momentum

Beyond the immediate roadworks, the Council is diligently advancing the second stage of the Kuhls Road Rehabilitation project, enhancing the overall road network.

Traffic management measures will be implemented to ensure the safety of construction workers, road users, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Community Cooperation

Council representatives are actively disseminating project updates to residents and business owners, encouraging the public to stay informed about the ongoing developments.

Residents can follow the project on the council’s YourSay page for regular updates.

As Highfields transforms, the Toowoomba community is reminded to adjust travel plans, anticipating intermittent delays and detours.

The Council expresses gratitude for the community’s patience, recognising the inconveniences caused by these vital works.

In the end, these efforts aim to not only improve the road network but also lay the groundwork for the future CBD of Highfields.
