First Nations Futures: Employment Pathways Program

What’s Happening?

MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees has opened applications for the First Nations Futures: Employment Pathways Program in Toowoomba, beginning April 2025. This free six-week program targets unemployed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, offering nationally recognised training, industry tickets, and personalised support to enter the workforce.

Why It Matters

This initiative empowers First Nations job seekers with practical skills, direct employer connections, and cultural mentoring—boosting employment outcomes in Toowoomba and beyond. MIGAS CEO David Hoey said,“We’re proud to provide a program that blends accredited training with mentoring from respected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders.”

The program stands out due to its wraparound support. Participants receive:

  • Weekly one-on-one cultural mentoring.

  • Training delivered by EDB Training.

  • Ongoing wellbeing and career support.

According to MIGAS, “It’s not just about finding a job—it’s about building strong, sustainable futures.”

Zoom Out

With youth unemployment and job access still a challenge in regional Queensland, programs like this close the gap by combining vocational training with community-led mentoring. Funded by Skilling Queenslanders for Work, this effort reflects broader commitments to First Nations employment.

What To Look For Next?

Applications are open now, but places are strictly limited. The April 2025 intake marks another key step toward long-term job creation in Toowoomba’s First Nations communities.
