Run for charity at Toowoomba Marathon 2025

Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon

What’s happening?

The Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon is set to take place on 3–4 May 2025, with participants encouraged to fundraise for two local charities: the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and It’s a Bloke Thing.

This year marks the return of the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation after a successful 2024 partnership, while It’s a Bloke Thing joins as an official event charity for the first time.

Participants in any of the weekend’s events—including the full marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Visit Toowoomba Region 10km, 5km run, and the unique Runway Mile—can choose to make their run more meaningful by supporting these causes.

Why it matters?

Events Management Queensland CEO Ben Mannion highlighted the powerful impact of running for charity, saying: “In our experience, making a commitment to running for a charity is often the powerful motivation people need to not only keep their training on track and achieve their personal goals but to also make a difference in the lives of others.”

Fundraising efforts will directly contribute to two vital community causes:

  • Toowoomba Hospital Foundation aims to build a new regional cancer centre, improving cancer treatment and patient care.
  • It’s a Bloke Thing raises funds for prostate cancer research, care, and awareness, addressing one of the leading health concerns for Australian men.

Local Impact

The marathon not only supports critical health initiatives but also fosters a strong sense of community engagement.

Mr Mannion added: “Running for charity adds a sense of purpose to the physical challenge and often fosters a sense of community for participants supporting a particular cause.”

Businesses and organisations can also get involved through the Runway Mile Corporate Relay, where a portion of the entry fees automatically benefits the charities.

By the Numbers:

  • 42.195km: Distance of the full marathon.
  • Two official charities: Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and It’s a Bloke Thing.
  • Six event options: Full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, Runway Mile, and the Corporate Relay.

Fun Fact

The Toowoomba Marathon logo features the city’s historic floral emblem, the sweet violet.

In the early 1900s, mothers and families of World War I soldiers sold bunches of sweet violets to raise funds for a memorial honouring those who didn’t return home.

This memorial, known as the Mother’s Memorial, now stands at East Creek near Queen’s Park and has been the site of ANZAC Day commemorations since 1916.

Participants have the chance to turn their personal fitness goals into a meaningful fundraising effort, helping local health organisations provide better care and services.

The Runway Mile event, in particular, offers a one-of-a-kind experience, allowing runners to race on the airport runway while supporting charity.

Zoom Out

The Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon is part of a broader network of events organised by Events Management Queensland, which also delivers the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon and the Pan Pacific Masters Games—both major fixtures on Queensland’s events calendar.

What to look for next?

With registrations now OPEN, participants are encouraged to sign up early, choose a charity to support, and start their fundraising journey.

As Mr Mannion puts it: “It doesn’t matter how much you raise for your chosen charity – every cent counts and is appreciated.”

The event is set to bring the Toowoomba community together for a weekend of running, fundraising, and making a difference.
