What’s happening?
St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland will turn Toowoomba blue for Vinnies Denim Week.
The event will run from Monday, 18 May to Saturday, 23 May 2026.
It will expand across the Toowoomba and Darling Downs region after success in Warwick.
Vinnies stores will invite locals to shop, donate, create and celebrate denim.
The week is timed around Global 501® Day on 20 May.
The day marks the anniversary of the denim rivet patent.
Stores will feature quality denim, including jeans, jackets, bags and vintage finds.
Why it matters?
Denim Week gives locals a simple way to support vulnerable people in their own region.
Funds raised will support St Vincent de Paul Society’s community programs.
The Society works to ease poverty and homelessness across Queensland.
It supports people experiencing hardship with a hand up, not just a handout.
Toowoomba Retail Operations Manager Adam Bruggemann said the event had a strong community purpose.
“Denim is the ultimate wardrobe staple, which makes this an easy and inclusive way for people to get involved with Vinnies,” he said.
“What started as a local event in Warwick has grown into something much bigger, and we’re excited to bring Denim Week to communities across the Toowoomba region.
“Whether you’re searching for a unique vintage piece, donating items you no longer wear, or getting creative through the upcycling competition, every action helps support people in our community doing it tough.”
Local Impact
Toowoomba and Darling Downs shoppers can support Vinnies by buying or donating denim.
The event is also expected to attract thrifters and treasure hunters from beyond the region.
That helps reinforce Vinnies as both a retail destination and a vital support service.
Local creatives can also enter the denim upcycling competition.
Participants must bring their designs in before 16 May.
They can choose to keep or donate their finished item after the competition.
Winning designs will be shown in-store during the campaign.
By the numbers
- More than $1,000 in prizes will be available for shoppers who spend $15 or more on denim.
- The upcycling competition winner will receive a $100 Vinnies gift card, while the runner-up will receive $50.
- In 2025, St Vincent de Paul Society supported more than 40,000 people in the Toowoomba region.
Zoom In
The upcycling competition will encourage locals to turn old denim into something new.
It gives worn pieces a second life while supporting a local cause.
A dedicated workshop will also be held in Warwick on Saturday, 23 May.
The workshop will take place at the original Denim Week store.
Participants will make a bag and a bucket hat.
They will also learn new skills, share ideas and develop their designs.
Zoom Out
Denim Week connects fashion, sustainability and community support.
It also taps into the wider popularity of vintage and second-hand shopping.
By linking the event to 501® Day, Vinnies gives the campaign a broader cultural link.
At the same time, the funds stay focused on local community programs.
What To Look For Next?
Locals can prepare their upcycled denim entries before the 16 May deadline.
Shoppers can then visit participating Vinnies stores from 18 to 23 May.
The Warwick workshop on 23 May will close the week with hands-on upcycling and community involvement.
