What’s happening?
The Toowoomba Quilters Club will showcase hundreds of traditional and modern quilts during this year’s Carnival of Flowers. The Annual Quilt Exhibition runs from Saturday 20 to Friday 26 September at Toowoomba Community Baptist Church, 100 Glenvale Road. Visitors can enjoy textile art, handmade treasures ideal for Christmas stockings, trade stands, patchwork demonstrations, and light refreshments.
As part of the event, the Club is raffling two handcrafted quilts for its 2025 Art Union Raffle. Tickets have already been sold at local shopping centres and community events, with the prize draw to take place during the Carnival of Flowers.
Why it matters
Angel Flight Australia, the chosen beneficiary, provides free non-emergency flights and ground transport for rural Australians needing specialist medical care in the cities. The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations and fundraising.
Angel Flight CEO, Marjorie Pagani, said, “We are so grateful to the talented and generous members of the Toowoomba Quilters Club for these beautiful works of art created in support of our cause. We look forward to seeing these quilts admired and eventually raffled off to a loving home during the Carnival of Flowers.”
Local impact
Toowoomba’s own Sheryl Weston, a volunteer driver for Angel Flight since 2017, has completed 131 patient drives to help rural families access essential health services. She represented the charity at the Quilters’ selection meeting late last year, reinforcing the local connection to the national cause.
The raffle quilts are community creations, made from donated blocks and unfinished stitcheries that members carefully transformed into one-of-a-kind heirlooms. Each ticket sold directly supports Angel Flight’s ongoing services.
