What’s happening?
Australia’s ultimate sporting rivalry explodes back into action as the 2025 PBR Monster Energy Origin Series opens this Saturday, 3 May, at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre. Queensland’s toughest cowboys, including Toowoomba region’s very own Zane Hall, are preparing to ride for state glory against New South Wales.
As Australians cast their votes on election day, these riders will carve out their own destiny — not with ballots, but with boots, grit, and bulls.
Why it matters
The Origin Series is bull riding’s State of Origin, a high-stakes battle where reputations are built and broken. Queensland has never been defeated since the series began in 2019. This year, with the Blues sharpening their challenge, every ride could decide the fate of the trophy. Toowoomba’s rising talent Zane Hall will carry the region’s hopes, helping the Maroons defend their perfect record.
PBR Australia Managing Director Glen Young said, “The fiercest rivalry in Australian sport isn’t just played out on the footy field or at the ballot box — it rages in the bull riding arena too.”
He added, “Queensland hasn’t lost an Origin Series since it began in 2019, so this year, it’s going to be a fierce battle, with NSW keen to make their mark. This Saturday, the real showdown will be in the chutes!”
Local Impact
Zane Hall, the adrenaline-chaser from Athol near Toowoomba, is among Queensland’s ten-strong squad heading to Newcastle. Known for his fearless style and sharp instincts, Hall’s inclusion highlights the strength of bull riding talent coming out of the Darling Downs.
Hall will ride alongside a powerhouse Maroons roster featuring the best from Mareeba, Calliope, Moura, Rockhampton, Bungandarra, and Gracemere. Together, they aim to keep Queensland’s Origin dynasty alive.
